They say the heart knows, and the mind thinks. But what if the path to your most elevated life isn't a choice between them... but a fusion of both? Welcome to The Somatic Code, where we decode the wisdom of the body to master the art of aging well. I'm your host, and together, we will learn to architect the self. Have you ever felt like you were living two different lives at the same time? During my undergraduate years, that was my reality. By day, I was a student, drowning in textbooks, dreaming of getting my Master's in Medical Gerontology from USC. But in the evenings, I would get in my car and drive 50 miles to my second life. The life of a caregiver for my grandparents. And if you are a Black woman who has ever had to carry the weight of a family, you know exactly what that drive probably felt like. It's the mental checklist: 'Did Grandma take her blood pressure meds? Did I remember to call the specialist? Do I have enough gas to get back for my 8 a.m. biology class?' It's a constant, frantic negotiation in your head. And your body keeps the score. For me, it was a clenched jaw. Shoulders that felt like they were permanently attached to my ears. A knot in my stomach that never went away. That physical tension was my body's way of screaming that I was stretched way too thin. We are told to push through. To be strong. To manage it all with our minds. But what if that's the very system that's failing us? Today, we're going to talk about the story our bodies are telling, and how learning to listen to it is the first step to reclaiming our power.
